You don’t typically associate warehouses with high-functioning boardrooms. Yet, in this Forest of Dean workplace, there was a clear need for one; a dedicated space, optimised for collaboration, client meetings and presentations that sat apart from the daily operations.
The Brief
The requirement was to create a boardroom within a warehouse, positioned separately from the operational floor but used by both office and warehouse teams when needed. As the primary meeting space, it needed to comfortably accommodate multiple people and flex between different uses, from team meetings through to structured presentations. A key objective was to reduce the need for off-site meetings by creating a professional, client-facing environment. As a result, the commercial design needed to feel composed and professional, reflecting the business in a confident way, rather than through overt branding.
The Solution
WIthin one room, every interior decision had to impact how the room supported the team. We approached it as an opportunity to maximise the investment of an existing asset, ensuring the room delivered more value from the same square footage.
Clearer Team Communications
For the team, our focus was making collaboration effortless. We wanted the space to improve communications, shared decision-making and focus without distraction. As a windowless room, we introduced reeded glass partitions to borrow light from adjacent areas whilst ensuring we maintained a level of privacy. The glass design prevents the meeting space from feeling enclosed and helps maintain a visual connection with the wider workplace. It’s something that subtly supports focus and awareness during longer meetings.
Lighting was designed to be fully flexible, combining different fittings and warmth levels to shift between ambient settings depending on the nature of the meeting. For example, the lights can be dimmed to make digital decks the focus or brightened for more collaborative tasks. This flexibility allows the room to support everything from structured presentations to more open discussions.
Acoustics were treated as a core performance factor within the meeting room design. Nature-inspired wall panels and ceiling baffles were introduced to control sound and reduce external distractions. In practice, this means conversations are clearer and easier to follow, particularly for large group meetings where clarity directly affects the quality of output.
The Client Experience
When hosting visitors, the boardroom needed to reinforce confidence in business from the moment they step in. A considered material palette, including light teal seating and timber slat detailing, introduces a sense of identity subtly without being overt. The impact here isn’t about creating a design statement, but about consistency and control.
Technology integration plays a key role in maintaining that impression. Meetings start smoothly, presentations connect without delay and time isn’t lost to setup or troubleshooting. These small moments can directly influence how capable and prepared the business appears. Elsewhere, softer finishes like carpet tiles and upholstery continue this experience by softening acoustics and adding warmth to the space, ensuring it looks just as good as it performs.
By focusing on how this individual room impacts the wider business and team, we were able to create a focal point of the workplace – one that actively supports how they meet, decide and present every day.
