The Brief
After relocating offices to the centre of Cheltenham, Signal were ready to appoint a partner to manage the fit out of their new headquarters.
The scope of the project involved timeline and budget management, commercial design, space planning and installation of their new workplace. A key element of the floor plans included forward-thinking fittings and fixtures that aligned with Signal’s vision for hybrid working. It was essential that their teams were able to decide empowered to choose where they will do their best work.
The hybrid workplace uses a human-centred design that breaks down barriers between teams by bringing together physical and digital workspaces. The client brief was clear, the need to combine the vision of an agile office with Signal’s company values: a creative, tech focused company that prides themselves on staying ahead of the curve.
The Solution
A large focus of the project was space planning. The layout needed to reflect the shift in working culture that the client wanted to embrace.
During the site visit, we also uncovered the client’s vision of an organic office look and their unique preference of using curves or straight lines within products. With ‘organic’ at the heart of the design, it was important to keep the office scheme neutral, whilst incorporating natural elements and subtle tones of branding and messaging. We discovered the brand’s fluidity, helping us to specify office furniture such as the curved seating, abstract lighting (which used organic shapes that mimicked the company logo) and natural materials throughout.
Desk space was massively reduced in the new office, so our designers got creative exploring new spaces where employees could work. There was no desk ownership planned, aligning with our client’s agile working ethos.
To provide the space required, multiple ‘collaboration areas’ in various sizes were specified by our designers. These could be reserved for the entire day, giving teams the possibility to come into the office to work together and share ideas. At the centre of the office was the hub; a relaxed, informal breakout space where staff could relax, work or chat.
The entire project included informal and formal meeting spaces, high end acoustic booths, workshops, storage spaces and a kitchen, zoned from the work area with timber slats to give clarity of separation without a physical wall.
Using our strong industry ties, experience in the field and exceptional project management, we ensured the client’s fit out project was delivered to a high standard, in time for their strict move in date.
“Finally, a big thank you to the whole team – we’ve still got a few things to sort out but we’ve had staff coming through this week and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and everyone is really looking forward to coming back in some way, soon. I also think it clinched my appointment of an office admin/Front of House person, who had two offers on the same day but said our office was better than anything she’d seen in Cheltenham.” – Signal
